DSCC starts drive to evict illegal shops at Sundarban Super Market

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has started drive in the capital’s Gulistan to demolish illegal shops at Sundarban Super Market and its surrounding areas. A team of the DSCC led by magistrates Moniru-zzaman Irfan Ahmed went to the market at 12noon on Thursday to demolish 669 shops.
DSCC Chief Estate Officer Rasel Subrin said the shops and various infrastructures illegally constructed inside the markets will be demolished gradually.
Besides, a section of traders of the market formed human chain at 11am protesting the eviction drive.
They alleged that they have given Tk one crore to the DSCC to legalise the shops. Some cases filed over the issue are under trial. But the DSCC began the drive without any solution from the court, they said. “We have trade licences and allotment documents from DSCC,’ said Shamim Ahmed, a shop owner of Sundarban Super Market.
Bangladesh Electrical Association vice-president Alimuzzaman Alim said that most of the shops in the market were of electronic and electrical appliances.
He alleged that local DSCC ward councillor and Awami League leaders were involved with the illegal dealing, adding that the traders should not be made victim for this.
