Charge framed against DIG (Prisons) Rashid in graft case

A Dhaka court yesterday framed charges against suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons Bazlur Rashid in a case, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed on the charge of accumulating money illegally.
Judge Iqbal Hossain of the Special Judge Court-5 of Dhaka passed the order, rejecting his appeal for acquittal on Thursday. The court fixed November 22 to start recording the depositions of the witnesses in the case.
Earlier on September 1, Senior Special Judge KM Emrul Kayesh accepted the charge sheet against suspended DIG, Prisons, Bazlur Rashid and transferred the case to the Special Judge Court-5 of Dhaka for next proceedings.
On August 26, ACC Deputy Director Md Nasir Uddin, who is Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charge sheet against Bazlur Rashid.
ACC arrested Rashid on last October 20, on charge of accumulating money illegally.
According to the case statement, the suspended DIG could not show any legal source of Tk 3.8 crore which he spent for buying a flat in a housing project on the Siddheswari Road of the city.
