DSCC’s 7 day push for cleaner Kamrangirchar
City administrator calls for citizen cooperation to prevent stagnant water and ensure a clean, green Kamrangirchar.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam on Friday announced a seven-day special ‘crash programme’ in Kamrangirchar to control dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases and improve waste management.
Speaking to worshippers after Friday prayers at a mosque adjacent to Kamrangirchar Eidgah field, the DSCC administrator said mosquito-control activities would continue every day during the week-long campaign.
“However, the City Corporation’s efforts alone are not enough. Citizens must also remain vigilant so that no stagnant water accumulates in their homes, yards or drains,” he said.
Salam urged residents to work together with the city authority to prevent mosquito breeding and maintain a clean environment.
He said the Inner Circular Road project is being implemented to expand the Kamrangirchar road into an eight-lane route, which would improve connectivity and transform the area’s overall landscape.
Calling for collective efforts to protect the Adi Buriganga Channel, the DSCC administrator urged residents not to dispose of waste and polythene into the river and requested their support in preventing river encroachment.
He also called on local residents to build social resistance against drugs, extortion and land grabbing, while ensuring that roads, drains and playgrounds remain free from illegal occupation.
Regarding complications over the registration of the mosque, Salam assured that necessary steps would be taken after discussions with relevant authorities.
He urged people to plant at least one tree each to protect the environment and said collective action was essential to build a clean, green and liveable Kamrangirchar.
Later, the DSCC administrator visited different areas of Kamrangirchar and planted trees at the Buriganga Public Library premises and along the bank of the Buriganga River as part of the nationwide campaign to plant 250 million trees.
Dhaka-7 lawmaker Hamidur Rahman Hamid and local leaders were present during the programme.
