Former Minister Abul Kashem dies

Sub-sector commander of the liberation war and former youth and sports minister Abul Kashem died on Saturday morning due to old age complications. He was aged 77.
He died at his residence in Banani at about 4:25am on Saturday, BNP chairperson’s press wing member Shamsuddin Didar confirmed the matter to our correspondent. He is survived by a son and two daughters.
His namaz-e-janaza will be held at Asiya-Gani Girls’ School ground in village Palpara of Cumilla sadar upazila after asr prayers on Saturday.
Abul Kashem will be buried later at the family graveyard in the same area, said Shamsuddin Didar.

Former whip Md Ashraf Hossain dies

Former whip Md Ashraf Hossain passed away at a private hospital in the capital early Saturday. He was 79.
Ashraf, former BNP joint secretary, who had been suffering from cancer, was admitted to the United Hospital 25 days ago. He breathed his last at the hospital around 3am, according to family sources.
His Namaj-e-Janaza will be held at Jam-e-Mosque at Nikunja-2 after Zohr prayer and will be buried in Cumilla near his parent’s graveyard.
The former BNP leader elected Member of Parliament from Khulna-3 constituency for four times and served as whip for three times.

Lightning strike kills 2 school students in Feni

Two schoolboys were killed and another was critically injured in a lightning strike at Paikpara village in Sonagazi village on Saturday morning.
The deceased were identified as Md Imran Hossain, 13, son of Md Gofran and Md Shakib, 12, son of Joynal Abedin, of the village and students of local Osmania High School. Local UP chairman Ishak Khokon said that a thunder bolt hit a group of schoolboys while they were playing in an orchard around 10:30am, leaving three boys critically injured.
Later, they were rushed to upazila hospital where doctors pronounced the duo dead.

Sirajganj SP, wife, daughter infected with coronavirus

Police superintendent of Sirajganj his wife and daughter have been infected with coronavirus.
Samples of SP Hasibul Alam (BPM), his wife and daughter were sent to a lab for coronavirus test on Thursday afternoon and received the reports on Friday, said the SP on Saturday morning. They are undergoing treatment at home. According to Sirajganj civil surgeon office, so far 1,021coronavirus cases have been detected in the district. Besides, 10 people died from the virus infection in the district.

B’baria AL leader Afzal Hossain dies

Agricultural Affairs secretary of Brahmanbaria unit of Awami League Afzal Hossain Nisar breathed his last on Friday evening at a hospital in the capital. He was 60. He left behind wife, two sons, three daughters and host of relatives and well wishers.
Meanwhile, Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Agricultural Affairs secretary of. She prayed for eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family. Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader also expressed his profound sorrow and shock at the death of Afzal Hossain Nisar.
