HC clears 57,232 old cases
The High Court (HC) has disposed of 57,232 old cases, including 50,325 old criminal miscellaneous cases, through 14 criminal motion benches in 11 working days.
Supreme Court Public Relations Officer Md Shafiqul Islam disclosed the information in a press release on Saturday, saying the benches disposed of the cases in just 11 working days from May 7.
The disposal is part of a special drive launched following a directive from Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury to reduce the longstanding case backlog.
Under the initiative, criminal motion and writ motion benches are prioritising the disposal of old cases to ensure faster justice for litigants and improve judicial efficiency.
The Supreme Court said the initiative had resulted in the disposal of a significant number of old cases, contributing to efforts to reduce the backlog and speed up the delivery of justice.
