BNP for nat’l dialogue to solve Rohingya crisis
Staff Reporter :
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has urged the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to hold a national dialogue to solve the Rohingya crisis.
He said it in a press conference at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan on Thursday.
Rizvi also urged the government to hold a national dialogue on Rohingya crisis after releasing its Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia from jail.
“The Rohingya issue is a national crisis, and it cannot be solved by one particular party. It is a question of Bangladesh’s existence. I call for a national dialogue,” he added.
Rizvi also demanded that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s experiences in dealing with the Rohingya crisis be used to solve the issue. Criticising the Prime Minister’s remarks on the Rohingya crisis was created by Ziaur Rahman, Rizvi said, “The PM made such comments to cover her own government’s failure to deal with the crisis.”
“The Prime Minister on Wednesday told the Parliament that Ziaur Rahman created the Rohingya problem…no one unless a crazy man can say like that,” Rizvi said.
The BNP leader said, Myanmar repeatedly tried to create a problem by pushing Rohingya people to Bangladesh, but late President Zia had strongly tackled it in 1978, while Khaleda Zia did the same in 1992. He said, their party has long been saying Rohingya crisis is a national one and it should not be considered from the political point of view.
Rizvi alleged that their party Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s health condition is deteriorating alarmingly for lack of proper treatment. He said, the government is conspiring to permanently cripple Khaleda and kill her in jail depriving her of treatment.
