OC Moazzem pleads not guilty

Feni’s Sonagazi Police Station’s former OC Moazzem Hossain yesterday pleaded not guilty in the case filed over recording slain Nusrat Jahan Rafi’s statement on his phone under the Digital Security Act.
On Thursday, Moazzem pleaded not guilty while
defending himself in the Bangladesh Cyber Tribunal. Besides, while speaking for self-defence he sought justice. Judge Mohammad As-shams Joglul Hossain conducted the proceedings of the court on Thursday. The court fixed November 20 for submitting arguments in the case.
On April 15, Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon filed the case against Moazzem under sections 26, 29 and 31 of the Digital Security Act 2018 for recording Nusrat’s statement on Moazzem’s mobile phone and circulating the video clip on social media without her consent. Later, on May 23, Reema Sultana, Additional Police Super, who was the Investigation Officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet of the case to the tribunal.
On April, 6, Nusrat, 18, was set afire on the root of an examination centre of Alim examination allegedly by students loyal to Principal Siraj Ud Doula of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa after he was arrested and subsequently suspended as Nusrat had accused him of sexually harassing her.
After fighting for life for five days, Nusrat died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s burn unit in the capital on the night of April 10, five days after the incident.
