418 killed in road accidents in July: BRTA

A total of 418 people were killed in 441 road accidents across the country in July. This information was disclosed in a road accident report signed by Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Chairman Mohammad Habibur Rahman on Sunday.

According to the report, by division, the highest number of accidents occurred in Chattogram Division, where 126 accidents killed 106 people and injured 146. In Dhaka Division, 104 accidents killed 101 people and injured 122. In Rajshahi Division, 56 accidents killed 57 people and injured 42. In Khulna Division, 42 accidents killed 39 people and injured 86. In Barisal Division, 21 accidents killed 16 people and injured 53.

The report further stated that in Sylhet Division, 17 accidents killed 16 people and injured 53. In Rangpur Division, 50 accidents killed 54 people and injured 27, and in Mymensingh Division, 25 accidents killed 29 people and injured 25. Meanwhile, a total of 673 vehicles were involved in July’s accidents. These included 18 motor cars or jeeps, 106 buses or minibuses, 142 trucks or covered vans, 35 pickups, 8 microbuses, 5 ambulances, 124 motorcycles, 20 vans, 8 tractors, 21 easy bikes, 28 battery-run rickshaws, 57 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and 101 other vehicles. In terms of vehicle-wise fatalities, motorcycle accidents claimed the most lives, with 109 deaths.

The report stated that 8 people died in motor car or jeep accidents, 45 in bus or minibus accidents, 56 in truck or covered van accidents, 16 in pickup accidents, 5 in microbus accidents, 3 in ambulance accidents, 12 in van accidents, 4 in tractor accidents, 15 in easy bike accidents, 14 in battery-run rickshaw accidents, 40 in auto-rickshaw accidents, and 91 in other vehicle accidents. In total, 418 people lost their lives in road accidents in July.
