Democratic society can’t possible without respect of women — Chief Justice

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain said, a truly democratic society cannot be established if we cannot reduce violence against women and children and show proper respect to them.
The Chief Justice said this as the chief guest in a conference on “Prevention of violence against women and children : National and international perspective”
organized by South Asian Lawyers’ Forum (SALF) on the Supreme Court premises yesterday.
Judge of the High Court Division Justice Naima Haider was present in the program as the chief speaker. Former Attorney General A F Hasan Ariff, Supreme Court Bar Association President Advocate A M Amin Uddin and Secretary Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan, among others, also gave speech on the occasion. President of SALF Advocate Sheikh Salahuddin Ahmed presided over it.
Syed Mahmud Hossain also said, “Judiciary of the country is always responsive to women and children. The Supreme Court has directed all the educational institutions and workplaces in the country to take possible institutional steps to prevent sexual harassment against women and to prosecute such crimes. We hope everyone will follow these instructions.”
