BD to participate in World Skills Contest 2019

Bangladesh, for the first time, is going to participate in the World Skills Competition 2019 in the southwestern Russian city of Kazan.
The event is showcasing the value of skills and raising the recognition of skilled professionals worldwide, which is scheduled to be held on August 22-27.
The National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) under the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has completed all necessary preparations to join the global competition.
The meet will feature contestants from Bangladesh namely Tanjim Tabassum Islam in confectionery and patisserie trade and Nafisa Sadaf Achol in fashion designing.
They were selected through the nationwide Rising Star Competition last year, said NSDA Executive Chairman Md Faruque Hossain in a press briefing at the NSDA office on Wednesday.
The NSDA Executive Chairman said Bangladesh as the 79th member of the World Skills International, is going to participate at the global level competition which is a matter of pride for the nation.
PMO Secretary Sajjadul Hassan spoke at the press briefing as the chief guest, while NSDA members, representatives from different Industry Skills Councils, contestants and technical experts were present.
Sajjadul Hassan said the government formed the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) in order to coordinate the country’s efforts in building the large youth population of the country into skilled manpower and ensuring the standard of their skills.
Hotel Radisson, InterContinental Dhaka and Coopers are providing support for grooming the contestants in Confectionery and Patisserie, while BGMEA in fashion designing. Concerned Industry Skills Councils are providing all-out supports.
