HAAB seeks waiver of Tk 47,000 repeater charge

Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAAB) has sought waiver of repeater charge on Hajj and Umrah visa this year to ease the financial burden of the Hajj agency owners and Monajjem.
Earlier, the Suadi authorities have imposed 2,100 Saudi Riyal or equivalent to Tk 47,000 for per repeaters.
The HAAB sent a letter to the Counselor of Bangladesh Hajj Office in Mekkah on Tuesday, seeking his help in this regard. It also sough interference of the Religious Affairs Ministry to get the repeater charge waiver.
“Hajj-2019 is knocking at the door. But agency owners are still in the dark about the cancelation of repeater charge by Saudi authorities. We are worried about the issue,” M Sahadat Hossain Taslim, President of HAAB told The New Nation on Wednesday.
This year, around 650 Hajj agencies will send 127,198 pilgrims to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj. The Hajj flight would start from July 4.
According to HAAB, Secretary of the Hajj and Umrah Ministry of Saudi Arabia Dr. Hossain Bin Naser Al Sharif recently meet with Bangladeshi Hajj agency owners and assured them of waiving the repeater charge on Hajj and Umrah visa for agency
owners and Monajjem this year. In a letter on May 23, the Religious Affairs Ministry requested the Saudi authorities to suspend the repeater charge.
“But the concerned Saudi ministry is yet to respond on the issue causing concern for the Hajj operators,” said Taslim.
The State Minister for Religious Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on Wednesday said that whatever we do, the decision of Saudi government about Hajj is final.
The minister came up with the remark at the inaugural ceremony of the training programme of medical team for this year’s Hajj
The minister attended the programme as chief guest held at Ashkona Hajj Camp in Dhaka.
Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah said that the Hajj management of this year has done well than previous years. Hopefully a good result would bring this year, he added.
Secretary of Religious Affairs Ministry Anisur Rahman, HAAB President M Sahadat Hossain Taslim and Director of the Hajj Camp Saiful Islam, among others, were also present.
