Soumya emphasizes DPL for his World Cup preparation
BSS, Dhaka :
Soumya Sarkar put emphasize on playing matches as many as he can in Dhaka Premier League (DPL) in his bid to take a good preparation for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup.
When some players including captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and even BCB president Nazmul Hassan saw a gulf of difference between domestic cricket and International cricket, Soumya said the ongoing DPL is a platform for him to grow up to make the habit of batting for longer period
“The planning of preparation varies man to man but for me, match practice is important to have a good preparation,” he said here on Thursday.
“I think there might be lacking and mistakes in our cricket, which could only be fixed by playing as many matches as we can. So in this sense I think match practice is more important than normal practice session.”
“Since our domestic cricket is going on now, I am trying to bat for longer period in every match. Whatever I do, be it bowling or batting, I am trying to do it for longer period. I am trying to play according to the situation of the team and the condition. I think if I play with this attitude. I will become accustomed with this, so I am working on it.”
He however explained how DPL would help him in executing his plan in the World Cup.
“I have already said that I am trying to make plan based on the situation of the game and doing better game plan. Along with playing here, I have been thinking the situation of England. If I throw my wicket early, then how my team will suffer- this type of things I am thinking right now,” he added.
Soumya was so far was happy to execute the plan even though he is yet to play a big innings in domestic cricket. Playing for Abahani Limited in DPL, in the last three matches, he scored 33, 36 and 46 which is not good looking for a batsman of his stature but Soumya said he was dismissed only by good balls in those three matches.
“I am happy that my approach was correct but I got out with good deliveries. But I believe if my mindset is okay and approach is correct, I can hit back with big knock.”
“You can’t finish you work just in a day. Sometimes you can be successful with ease, sometimes it needs hard work. But I am taking my time since I want to make me at least 99 percent correct, if not 100 percent. That’s why the main thing is to bat for longer period in DPL,” he said.
