Phulbari UZ polls stayed by HC
Phulbari Upazila polls has stayed by the High Court, while election of other 9 upazila parishads will be held today.
Returning Officer and District Election Officer Md. Jahangir Alam Rakib confirmed the matter.
After including Dashiarchhara (former Indian enclave) with Bangladesh in August 2015, many villages of Dashiarchhara have been included with the nearest three unions of Phulbari upazila. Upon the appeal, the High Court issued the stay order on Kurigram’s Phulbari upazila parishad election, the RO said. He said, “I received the order signed by Bangladesh Supreme Court’s Advocate Farhana Abedim and informed about the order to our higher authority. But I have already taken initiative on the stay order.” There are six union parishads under Phulbari upazila. The villages of Dashiarchhara (former Indian enclave) have been added with Phulbari Sadar union, Kashipur union and Bhangamor union under the upazila.
