Villagers sue BGB in 3 cases

Seven members of Border Guard Bangladesh have been sued over the incident of opening fire on villagers in Thakurgaon that left three villagers dead in this month.
Three separate lawsuits have been filed by the families of the victims in the court.
These three lawsuits follow BGB’s two cases filed against the villagers, consequence to the clash between them over “smuggled cattle”.
Villagers have accused Lt Col Tuhin Mohammad Masud, Commanding Officer of BGB Battalion-50, and the Battalion members Nayek Habibullah,
Nayek Delwar Hosein, Sepoy Habibur Rahman, Sepoy Mursalin, Sepoy Bayrul Islam and Nayek Subedar Ziaur Rahman in their lawsuits filed with Thakurgaon Judicial Magistrate Court.
Thakurgaon Judicial Magistrate Farhana Khan took the charges into cognisance and fixed March 6 for hearing the case, said plaintiffs’ lawyer Nurul Islam.
On February 12, three people — Nabab, Sadek, and Joynul Islam were killed and at least 16 others suffered bullet wounds as members of a BGB patrol team opened fire following a scuffle with locals in Thakurgaon’s Baharampur village.
