Disaster Minister assures exemplary punishment

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu has assured that those responsible for the killing of four members of a family, including retired teacher Ganapati Chakraborty, in Rangpur will face exemplary punishment.

The government remains committed to a “zero tolerance” policy against all forms of killing, the minister said while visiting the residence of the slain retired teacher in Machuapara area of Rangpur city on Sunday. Eight days after the killings, Dulu visited the scene and spoke with the bereaved family members, assuring them that the investigation would be completed quickly and the perpetrators brought to justice.

“Police will submit the charge sheet soon after completing further investigation, and exemplary punishment will be ensured for those involved in this heinous killing,” he said. The minister said the government had taken initiatives to break the culture of impunity by ensuring speedy trials in several high-profile murder cases, including the killings of Lamisa and Nandini.

“The family members of the victims and the people of Rangpur are expecting justice for these killings. Law enforcement agencies have already made progress in the investigation.
