EC become helpless, says Selima

Staff Reporter :
BNP Vice-Chairman Selima Rahman on Wednesday said, the Election Commission and the Chief Election Commissioner are helpless.
“Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda is feeling embarrassed due to his helplessness. We think CEC is truly embarrassed because the EC cannot exercise its power,” Selima Rahman said to the journalists after handing over a letter on behalf of her party to the EC.
She said, “The parliamentary polls will be acceptable if the CEC takes proper action.”
In the letter, BNP sought EC’s step to stop attack and harassment inflicted upon BNP candidates and activists during election campaign across the country.
Earlier in the morning, CEC KM Nurul Huda said in a briefing he is embarrassed over yesterday’s attack on BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s motorcade in Thakurgaon and a clash in Noakhali where a Jubo League leader was killed.
Salima Rahman said, “The campaigns of BNP leaders had been attacked by Awami League and Jubo League activists, with the help of police. The ruling party was harassing and intimidating BNP activists everywhere.”
“They (AL) want to stop us from campaigning because they want to turn it into a one-sided election,” she said.
Selima complained that BNP leaders and activists were being arrested even after the announcement of election schedule.
