Road crash kills 3 in Sylhet

Three people, including an auto-rickshaw driver, were killed in a road accident on the Sylhet-Sylhet Highway in South Surma upazila on Wednesday. Of the deceased, one was identified as Salam Ahmed, an auto-rickshaw driver, while the identity of two others could not be immediately known. Officer-in-charge of South Surma police station M Mursalin said the accident took place when a Habiganj-bound bus hit the CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Telibazar Bridge around 11 am, leaving driver Salam and two passengers dead on the spot.

BCC fines shop owners , evicts signboards written in English

Barisal City Corporation evicted signboards, billboards, polysigns, banner, festoons written in English or mixed languages on Wednesday.Jahangir Molla, sanitary inspector BCC, said Imtiaj Ahmed Jewel, executive magistrate of BCC led the drives as per direction of higher court to remove signboards written in English or mixed languages. In the drive operated on July 23, 2014 BCC evicted more than 13 signboards from different areas of the city including Police Line to Kakoli More of Sadar Road. Owners of the shops also fined total Tk. 10,300 for violating the direction of the court. However total 15 drives were operated from June 2014 to July 23 and 5 cases lodged, Tk 15,500 fines realised from 22 persons in such drives, the BCC official added. BCC also cut or damaged those signboards, which they failed to evict or remove during the drives, the BCC official acknowledged.

Dumb killed in Kurigram road mishap

A power triller knocked a dumb disabled young man at Kachari Pairadanga area on Kurigram-Nageswari Highway under Nageswari upazila in Kurigram district at Wednesday . He was killed on the spot. The deceased was identified as Abdus Salam 35 son of Sakir Uddin of village Balashipara of Pairadanga area under the upazila. Police sources said, a bricks loaded trolley dashed the pedestrian dump causing he was killed on the spot. Officer-in-Charge of Nageswari police station Abdur Rashid said on information police rushed to the spot and recovered the dead body and sent it to Kurigram sadar Hospital for post mortem . The trolley was taken to police station. The driver fled away after the incident. A case was filed on that connection in Nageswari thana .

3 drug peddlers held in Jessore

The police arrested three youths of Faridpur as they came to Jessore to buy illegal drugs in Jessore town on Tuesday evening. Police detained the three on their suspicious movements at Pulerhat area, said sub inspector Asgar. The arrested are Kazi Rizvi Ahmed of Garania village under Alphadanga village, Shamim of Mithapur village and Raju Ahmed of Boalmari in Faridpur . Police recovered Tk 52,500 from their possessions. Sub inspector Asgar said the three came to Jessore to buy illegal drugs for Eid-ul- Fitr. A case was lodged with Kotwali police station in this regard.

Terrorist arrested with revolver in Baraigram

Terrorist Rakib (22) was arrested with a Pakistani made revolver at Ahmedpur bazaar under Baraigram upazila on last Monday. Rakib is a son of Alauddin of the village Natabaria under Baraigram upazila. On a secret information, Sub-Inspector of police Krisno Mohon with his force had been waiting before Rakib came at Ahmedpur bazaar. When Rakib came in front of Bonoful hotel of Ahmedpur bazaar with a shopping bag, police Krisno Mohon caught and checked him. Then he got a Pakistani revolver in his shopping beg. A case has been filed in this connection with Baraigram thana.  

Workshop for journalists held
A day- long workshop for the journalists on ‘National T.B Control Works’at Baraigram Health Complex under Baraigram upazila was held on Monday. Baraigram upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Md Abdul Hannan presided over the workshop. It was addressed among others by T.B & Lap-racy Control Supervisor Md Abul Kalam Azad and T.B & Lap-racy Control Assistant Md Shariful Islam. In the workshop, Bonpara Press Club Chairman Md Saifur Rahman, Secretary with others 25 journalists were present. They addressed about different ways of TB control and wanted help of journalists to make public awareness on this subject.

Gun powder recovered, one held in C’nawabganj

One person was held with 4.25 kg of gun powder and a hasua from Charlakhinarayanpur under Islampur union of Chapainawabganj sadar upazila at early hours on Tuesday. The arrested person was identified as Md. Khairul, 45, son of Abdul Based of the aforesaid area. RAB said, an operation team of RAB of Chapainawabganj camp on secret information, raided the house of Khairul at around 12-10 am and held him with the gun powder and the hasua. Later RAB handed over the arrested person along with the gun powder and the hasua to the police of Chapainawabganj sadar thana with a case.
