American people vote for balance in power

AMID widespread speculation about a big push in the mid-term polls, US President Donald Trump’s Republican Party in a dramatic way has retained control of the Senate and its rival Democrats took control of the House of Representatives. The election results may not be a big shock but it shook the Trump Administration, no doubt.
This time, the Democrats gained more than the 23 seats they needed to take control of the House. And it is the first time in the last eight years; the Democrats could manage majority in the lower House of Congress. The loss of the House will make it harder for Mr Trump to push his policies forward.
What significant is that, the Republicans have kept control of the Senate, the upper chamber of Congress, already getting 51 seats. They gained Indiana, Missouri and North Dakota from the Democrats. On the other hand, the Democrats have only gained one Senate seat in Nevada. Results of three Senate seats are yet to be declared. Races in Arizona and Florida have not been called and voters in Mississippi will return to the polls later this month for a runoff, after no one candidate in the special election race took more than 50 per cent of the vote.
The Democrats increased their vote share in 239 districts, but they didn’t win all of them. Besides, the Democrats were keen to win governorships in crucial swing states to avoid Republican gerrymandering in the 2020 census redistricting. Certainly, they will be disappointed not to take Georgia or Florida.
The entire world kept close and curious eyes on this election to see how the American citizens treat with Mr Trump’s policy -“America First”. Interestingly, the US citizens didn’t totally rejected Trump, neither had they fully accepted him. The balancing position in Senate and Congress means; American people want there must be a balance in power sharing.
It is hard to calculate the result of next Presidential election in 2020 analyzing the mid-term election. We earlier had observed that, several popular US Presidents like Bill Clinton and Barack Obama had received severe blow in the mid-term polls. But both of them had returned with much popularity for the second time.
The fact is that; Mr Trump has saved himself this time.
