Independent pay scale for university teachers demanded

A delegation of newly elected Chittagong University Teachers’ Association (CUTA) demanded independent pay scale for the public university teachers to the government through University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh to maintain a decent standard of living. They also demanded the increase of retirement age from 65 to 67 years.
The demand was made when CUTA delegation called on UGC Chairman (State Minister) Prof Dr AK Azad Chowdhury at the latter’s office on Monday.
Earlier, human chain was formed across several public university campuses demanding independent pay scale for the public university teachers and also to increase the retirement age from 65 to 67 years.
Expressing solidarity and sympathy with the demand of CUTA, UGC Chairman said, the demand for independent pay scale for the university teachers is logical and he will discuss the matter with the government.
UGC Members- Prof Dr Atful Hye Shibly, Prof Dr Mohammad Mohabbat Khan, Prof Dr Abul Hashem, Prof Dr Md Akhter Hossain and UGC Secretary Dr Md Khaled were present in the meeting.
