Naznin Chumki as Chitrangada

National Film Award winner actress Naznin Hasan Chumki performed in dance drama when she was a school student. Later, many years passed. She never had seen to perform in any dance drama. After a break of many years, she will be seen to perform in a dance drama today on the stage. She will play in role of ‘Chitrangada’ of Rabindranath Tagore’s dance drama ‘Chitrangada’ to be produced by Sadhona. Scripted by Lubna Marium, Sweety Das Chowdhury has made this dance drama. After scripted it Lubna Marium has given its title ‘Nohi Devi Nohi Samannyo Nari.’ On the occasion of 35th anniversary of Naripokkho, the dance drama will be staged today at Bangla Academy Moncho at 7:00pm. Naznin Chumki confirmed it yesterday.
While sharing her feelings to play in role of Chitrangada Naznin Chumki told this correspondent, “During childhood I played the role of ‘Chitrangada’ when I was a student of school. Later, I did not get the scope. After many years, I will be present on the stage today with this role. I am really happy in this regard which cannot be expressed in a word. I am grateful to Lubna Marium and Sweety Das Chowdhury to give me such a scope to play in this role in the dance drama.”
In the dance drama, Chumki will be seen in roles of three Chitrangadas, in dance Sweety Das Chowdhury and in music Shimu Das. Naznin Chumki was last seen on the stage in Masum Reza scripted and directed play ‘Nittyapuran’ under the banner of theatre troupe, Desh Natok. Chumki played in role of ‘Draupadi’ in that play.
In 1999, Chumki was first seen in TV play titled ‘Jetey Jetey Obosheshey.’ Now she is acting in Juboraj Khan’s serial ‘Ba-tey Bondhu,’ Rulin Rahman’s ‘Bhalobasha Karey Koi,’ Alvi Ahmed’s ‘The Generation’ and Babor’s ‘Babor Ali Returns.’ Under her direction a new serial ‘Nagordola’ will be telecast on Channel 9 from third week of this month. She has been working with ‘Desh Natok’ since 1996. She got the National Film Award for Kazi Morshed’s movie ‘Ghani.’
