BUFT student wins design competition in Sri Lanka

Farzana Akther Shumi, a student of the Dept of Fashion Design & Technology (FDT) of BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) achieved the ‘Award of Excellence for Outstanding Collection’ in the “International Graduate Fashion Spectacle (IGFS) 2018”, held in Colombo, Sri Lanka recently. Her collection was about “Nakshi Kantha ¾ a folk art of Bengal”.
In her collection, some old “Kantha” of the 19th century with portrait design and stitching proficiency are excellently innovative. The craftsmanship in the collection created spontaneously light color weaves and colorful divers coloring design.
The collection is inspired by the folk art through its motifs of “Nakshi Kantha” into Shibori dye by hand stitching. This folk art represents the “Tradition of Contexture” in women’s wear.
Two other students Azizur Rahman Raihan and Shaheda Akter from the same department also took part in the program.
Azizur Raihan, made collection on a theme “Ancient Diva (Mysterious queen)” was also nominated for another category. Shaheda Akter made her collection based on “City Rush” which has focused the life style of “Night Dhaka city”. These portfolio graduate collections were supervised by Morshed Mohiuddin, Assistant Professor of the university.
International Graduate Fashion Spectacle (IGFS) 2018 organized by Mod’Art International and Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology (LIFT) was held in Sri Lanka connecting international fashion graduates from seven countries to showcase their best collections in a ramp show.
