At least 50 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinees of Eidgah Ideal High School in Sadar upazila fell sick after eating ‘tehari’ on Tuesday.
Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Noman Hossain said at least 50 students of the school felt ill after having ‘tehari’ taken from Purbani Hotel and Restaurant of the area on the occasion of New Year 2018.
On information, upazila administration conducted a drive on the hotel and restaurant and sealed off it, the UNO added.
The sick students were admitted to Diabetic Care and Hospital adjacent to the school, he said. Meanwhile, the upazila administration has formed a three-member committee to investigate the incident.
Khurshidul Jannat, headmistress of the school, said they will take legal action against the hotel owner Uttam Roy Pulak.
Boiling water thrown on housewife: A housewife received burn injuries when a woman threw boiling water at her during an altercation centering cooking meal on Tuesday morning.
The incident took place at ‘Monju Member’s House’ in Eidgha Boro Pukur area under Halishahar Thana.
The victim was identified as Sabekun Nahar, 20, while the alleged attacker was Ayesha- both are the tenants of the house.
Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Police Outpost ASI Alauddin said a total five tenant families live in the house but there are only two burners for their cooking. They regularly used to lock in altercation during cooking.
During Tuesday’s altercation at one stage, Aysha threw boiling water at Nahar. The victim was rushed to CMCH and admitted to the Burn Unit with 18 per cent burn injury.
A case was filed in this connection and police arrested Aysha, the ASI added.
