Organising Secretary of Awami League central committee and elder son of former Chittagong city mayor Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel said former Mayor and Awami League Chittagong City Unit President Mohiuddin Chowdhury was a leader of mass people irrespective of caste and creed .
He said his father dedicated his life for the wellbeing of the mass people beside the party interests. He disclosed it while addressing the reminiscence on Mohiuddin Chowdhury at Premier University campus on Wednesday as chief guest.
ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury was offered a minister-ship but the politician rejected the offer for simple reason that he did not want to leave Chittagong-the place where he was born and brought up . Recalling the former mayor of Chittagong City ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury’s love for the Chittagong region, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina proposed Mohiuddin to be a minister, but he rejected the offer opting to stay here in Chittagong” , Nowfel also quoted the remaks of the party General secretary o the occasion.
In separate statements of different political personality remarked over the dedicated leader Mohiuddin Chowdhury as follows- Former City Mayor Manjurul Alam said Mohiuddin Chowdhury was a pride of Chittagong and a leader of the mass people of the region. “Today, the vacancy which has been created with the death of this people’s leader is irrevocable.”
Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Abdus Salam said, “I am fortunate that I did politics with him. He was not only a politician but he was also our guardian. He raised his voice against all injustice and used to think about the betterment of the peoples of Chittagong. We pray for his departed soul.”
Chittagong City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin said Mohiuddin was the leader of neglected Chittagong. With his bold initiatives he fulfilled many aspirations of the people of Chittagong. People of Chittagong lost their guardian with the death of the great leader, he said.
In the condolence meeting at PU campus, deans of different faculties, heads of department s, Directors , Registrars, controller were present , a sources of PU said.
