Pakistan’s ‘Mera Lyari’ in running for Oscars

Pakistani film ‘Mera Lyari’ has made it to the Oscars, the most prestigious award in the international film industry.

The film, which was produced with the funding of the Information Department of the Sindh government, is enjoying a great success in the province.

The Sindh government has termed the matter as a great pride and honor for the entire Pakistan.

A high-level meeting of the Film Board was recently held to review this success and the overall development of the provincial film industry.

The meeting was chaired by Senior Minister of Sindh Province and Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon.

‘Mera Lyari’ is based on the social background and local culture of Lyari, a traditional and talked-about area of Karachi.

Expressing satisfaction over the film’s inclusion in the preliminary race for the Oscars, Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said, “It is a great joy for Pakistan and Sindh Province that ‘Mera Lyari’ has made it to the global stage like the Oscars.

If the film is able to get the final Oscar nomination, it will be a historic milestone.

Through this, our local art, culture and talent will be presented in a unique way to the world.”

The Film Board meeting was informed that the first phase of film projects started under the Information Department have been successfully completed.

Now discussions are underway with various national and international OTT platforms and world-renowned distributors to distribute these films worldwide.

Information Secretary Kashif Gulzar Sheikh, Director General of Information Moez Pirzada, film director Hizbullah Memon and other senior officials of the board were present at the meeting.
