The project works of Halda protection embankment aimed at resisting erosion of Halda river in Raozan and Hathazari Section of the river will begin from this dry season .
Power Development Board , Chittagong sources said the 14 kilometers long embankment under Raozan and Hathazari Upazila section will be implemented in phases at a cost of Tk.212 crores.
Following the approval of constructing embankment in Halda , the dwellers beside the halda bank expressed heap of seigh .
For protection of their properties beside the river bank.Sources said army engineering department will monitor the embankment work .A villager of halda bank Md. Yousuf Uddin told that their dwelling houses will be saved this next rainy season if the embankment work is completed before monsoon. The maximum land of Raozan Upazila beside Halda River eroded gradually and the newly grown silted land joins with neighouring Upazila of Hathazari . Urkirchar union is the most erosion affected union of Raozan upazila and a huge land on Halda river bank of Urkirchar gone under water and created silted land alongwith Burirchar Union of Hathazari Upazila.
Chairman of Urkirchar union Abdul Jabbar Sohel told this correspondent that some hundred acres of land beside Halda River eroded in recent years which created silted land beside the another village of Hathazari upazila.
Following the untired efforts of local lawmaker ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury MP and the upazila chairman Ehsnul Haider Chowdhury , the embankment project was approved by the concerned authorities and hoped that the project work on Raozan portion of the river will be completed before moonson next.
Executive Engineer of WDB Swapan Barua told that the work of embankment in Kotowaligona, Sattarghat, West Gohira, Kagatia, Azimerghat, aburkhil, mokamipaa and kachukain of Raozan section will be started very shortly .
The total areas of embankment work viz. 6 kilometers in Raozan side and 8 kilometers in Hathazari side, sources said.
