Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), Chittagong centre, in collaboration with Rangamati sub-centre, arranged a seminar on Landslide Remedies at Parjatan Corporation Complex here on Friday.
Vice-Chairman of Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board Tarun Kanti Ghosh was chief guest at the seminar.
Chairman of IEB Chittagong centre Engineer Sadeq Mohammad Chowdhury presided over the function while Engineer Mohammad Jahangir Alam presented the keynote paper.
Former Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology Engineer MA Rashid, Engineer Uday Shekhar Datta, Engineer Probir Kumar Sen, Chairman of IEB, Rangamati sub-centre Engineer Matiur Rahman, President of Rangamati Chamber Mohammad Belayet Hossain, and Member of Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Council Hajji M Kamal Uddin also spoke in the seminar.
The speakers said, “Due to excessive rainfall, unplanned hill climbing, lack of infrastructure and policy in hill management, illegal settlement in the hill areas and torture on nature, landslides happen in the hill areas.”
The speakers also put emphasis of repairing the Rangamati-Chittagong road before the next monsoon.
The speakers also said as the hill areas are at the risk of earthquake, it is necessary to build houses mad by wood and bamboo, and the construction of high-rise buildings will increased the risk.
