Shane Jurgensen given reception
Bangladesh Cricket Supporters Association (BCSA) accorded a reception to the former head coach of Bangladesh National Cricket team Shane Jurgensen and former fielding coach of Bangladesh National Cricket team Corey Richards on Thursday.
Meanwhile, players of Bangladesh National Cricket team and officials of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) gave farewell to former coach Shane Jurgensen at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on the same day.
Mushfiqur Rahim, the Captain of Bangladesh National Cricket team and the officials of BCB arranged a party on the eve of the farewell of Shane Jurgensen. They cut a cake and Mushfiqur Rahim offered cake to Shane Jurgensen and Jurgensen took the cake.
Mushfiqur Rahim said, ” He was an extra-ordinary person. He was very friendly to Bangladesh Cricket team. I hope we shall keep the success in the future which came under his responsibility.”
Shane Jurgensen sent his resignation letter to BCB on April 28 and Corey Richards submitted his resignation letter to BCB recently.
BCB accepted Jurgensen’s resignation letter on May 5 while BCB released Corey Richards from his post on May 6.
Last year Shane Jurgensen was appointed head coach of Bangladesh National Cricket team. During his tenure Bangladesh made a draw with Sri Lanka, beat Sri Lanka in a One Day International (ODI) match, whitewashed New Zealand, beat West Indies in a One Day International match.
But later, Bangladesh Cricket team showed dismal performances in Sri Lanka series, in Asia Cup and in ICC World Twenty20 Cricket.
Thus Shane Jurgensen and Corey Richards had to submit their resignation letters.
Shane Jurgensen said, “I am quite pleased to work with the boys, they are good cricketers. Thanks to BCB for giving me the opportunity as a coach, it is one of the biggest achievements in my coaching career.”
“It is a new sort of thing for me” – the retiring coach said. Shen Jurgenson thanked all the cricket supporters of Bangladesh and said he delighted by the reception.
Cory Richards said, “Bangladesh has abundant talents. Definitely they will turn back someday. I am amused by the hospitality. I have passed some of the great moments here.”
BCSA President Zunaed Paikar expressed gratitude on behalf of all the cricket supporters of Bangladesh. He also presented a memento on behalf of the association. BCSA life member Ahmed Sajjadul Alam and Tanvir Ahmed welcomed them with flowers in the beginning of the programme. Secretary General Md Jabed Ali and several other associates were also present on the occasion.
