A dramatist, poet, novelist and cultural personality, he was an Inspector in the Assam Bengal Railway duing British rule. His drama Chhotolok gained popularity because of its successful stage performance. The writer has, thus, a zenetic inheritance of creativity.
His juvenile novel Andhar Kete Alo is passing four editions. Africar Shreshtho Rupkotha by Kathline Arnott, translated by Fazlul Quadir has been published in February 2017 in the recent Boimela.
Poet Fazlul Quadir’s Limerick O Chhoray Bangladesh needs to be introduced to the readers through a focus on the background of limericks. From Ireland the art of creating limerick spread in the world. Five lines’ limericks were recited by the poets there. At the very beginning limerick did not bear any deep thought. It only aimed to give joy and to make laugh. But the contemporary limerick has reached a stage where it bears a particular thought, significance and message. The subject matter is different and it includes all spheres of life. Now-a-days the limericks may enrich the reader with deep thought and make him/her laugh. Poet Fazlul Quadir in this book has presented limericks on different aspects of life, society and nation. A Book mainly on criticism, it reflects creativity.
The first part, the book ‘Limerick’ contains 100 limericks. Here the readers will meet the writer as a patriot and guide to show the path of social welfare and national progress.
In the second part `Chhoray Bangladesh’ the contents include 37 rhymes in a new rhythmic experiment and style of presentation. It is not a book of rhymes as we generally think of. The rhymes here are rather direct and indirect reflection of the development in our history, politics, economy and culture. With the exception of a small number of rhymes, the majority speaks of the contemporary reality-the degradation of human values in the society, moral bankruptcy and the distress and agony of the exploited mass-the economically backward section.
Mizanur Rahman Shahittya Kotha, the publisher of the book deserves thanks for this commendable publication.
We expect from Poet Fazlul Quadir more creativity and these two books in one cover, a wide circulation. n
