Public lecture on use of Bangla in judgment

Bangla is stated to be the sole language of Bangladesh as per the Article 3 of the Constitution. Consequently, it is mandatory to use Bangla in every affair of the state. For this reason, there should be an absolute use of Bangla in the Judiciary along with the other organs of the state i.e. Parliament and Executive. Otherwise, the constitution is violated. These opinions were given by Justice Md. Ashraful Kamal of Bangladesh Supreme Court as chief guest in a public lecture entitled ‘Mayer Vashay Adalolter Ray’ (Judgment of Courts in the Mother Language) organized by Department of Law, East West University (EWU). The public lecture was held on Saturday at Aftabnagar in the capital.
Vice Chancellor of the university Prof Dr MM Shahidul Hassan Chaired the program.
Justice Md. Ashraful Kamal also opined that the language of the court should not be complex and it must be comprehensible to general people. He expects that from this February, the month of the language movement, Bangla will be used as the language of the Supreme Court instead of English. In the program, Chairperson of Department of Law, EWU Prof Dr Tureen Afroz addressed the welcome remarks.
Prominent judges and lawyers of the country, Chairperson of Board of Trustees, EWU and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Few other members of Board of Trustees, EWU, teachers, and staff of different departments and the students of the Department of Law were also present on the occasion.
