Bodies of six abducted victims found

Our Narayanganj Correspondent :Out of seven abducted persons including panel mayor of Narayanganj city corporation Nazrul Islam and senior advocate Chandan Sarker the decomposed bodies of six were recovered from the river Sitalakhya in Bandar Upazila on Wednesday. The bodies of the victims bore marks of stab wounds and the places where the bodies were found had blood marks, witnesses said. Four other victims were identified as Nuruzzaman Swapan, Tajul and Liton who were also abducted with Nazrul. The body of Ibrahim, driver of advocate Chandan Sarker was also identified.They were also abducted with Nazrul and Chandan Sarker from the Linkroad area of Narayanganj city on Sunday afternoon.Narzul’s wife Selina Islam identified her husband’s body which was partially decomposed. Besides, Chandan Sarker’s body was identified by District Bar President Shakawat Hossain Khan. The body of Swapan was identified by his brother Ripon while the body of Ibrahim was identified by his brother Abu Bakar. The body of Tazul was identified by his brother Anis.When the bodies of the abducted persons were recovered by Bandar police and members of other law enforcing agencies the wailing members of families of victims created a touching scene. It was indeed impossible for all those who gathered on the bank of the Sitalakhya to check their tears. Scores of people joined the members of victims families to share their grief. The members of families of victims expressed their resentment over failure of the members of law enforcing agencies to return the abducted persons alive to them. They demanded exemplary punishment to those who were behind the heinous crimes. Bodies of the victims were first spotted by the local people who informed the matter to the police. Having received the information the police together with divers rushed to the spot and started recovering the decomposed bodies one after another, witnesses said.The bodies were recovered from the river Sitalakhya at Kalagachhia around 2:45pm, said Akhtar Morshed, officer-in-charge of Bandar Police Station. The recovery of the bodies continued for couple of hours till the evening. The bodies were located near large concentration of water hyacinth. Two bags with 12 bricks were tied with each victim to ensure so that those could not float. The hand and legs of all the victims were found tied up with ropes, said Bandar police station Officer-in-Charge Akhter Morshed. “The face of one of the bodies was wrapped in a plastic bag and he was wearing a Panjabi. Of the other two bodies, one was wearing a T-shirt while the other was wearing a half-sleeve shirt,” Akhter said. Of the six bodies one had no cloth. All the six bodies were sent to Victoria General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Meanwhile, thousands of agitated local people and supporters of Narayanganj city councillor Nazrul Islam, went on rowdy protest following the spread of the news that his body was recovered from Shitalakhhya River on the day.The protesters demonstrated putting up barricade on Dhaka-Chittagong highway and the Dhaka-Narayanganj highway demanding exemplary punishment to those involved in the murder of the abducted persons. They also vandalized several vehicles and set on fire to a filling station in Mouchak area, Abdul Matin, OC, Siddirganj said.Police diverted traffic to avoid any untoward incident, he added.The supporters of Narzrul Islam blocked highway at Mouchak area in the morning like the two previous days.Traffic movement on Dhaka-Chittagong highway remained suspended till filing the report at 9pm which created a long tailback. On the other hand, the lawyers of Narayanganj Bar boycotted the court protesting for the third consecutive day on Wednesday protesting the abduction of Advocate Chandan Sarker and his driver.Meanwhile, different political parties and human rights bodies expressed their strong resentment over increasing incidents of abduction and murder in the country. They asked the government to ensure security of life of the people or quit. They were bitterly critical of the members of law enforcing agencies in unveiling clue to most of the incidents of abductions and murders.
