According to a poll opinion, 52 percent Brazilians are opposed to staging a gigantic sports extravaganza like the World Cup Football at home. They say that Brazil is a poor country where the majority population lives under the poverty line. So, it is more important to give more allocation to the service sectors like education, health and transport.
Those who demand cancellation of the competition beginning in June have been staging demonstrations for the last six months, swearing that they would not allow the Confederation of Brazil Football (CBF) to go ahead with the cup schedule. This has alarmed the FIFA President Sapp Blatter, who has already admitted of making mistake by not giving importance to the demonstrations.
Several European countries, particularly the United Kingdom, could hold such colossal competition, because of advanced technology and infrastructure, in six months notice. But the time is now too short. In this backdrop, Brazil’s future as a football playing nation is at high risk. As such, if demonstrations continue, many nations may reconsider their participation for security reason. Again if the hosts fail to win the title at home for the second time, that will be a disaster.
In the interest of football and peace, we request the people of Brazil to suspend demonstrations for four months at least.
