Shop owners will be liable if further accident occurs: Mayor
Staff Reporter :
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq on Friday warned the shop owners of Gulshan’s DCC market that they will be held responsible if any accident occurs again after reopening of the market, which was ravaged by fire on January 2.
He issued the warning while talking to newsmen after visiting the market in the afternoon.
“The building of the market seems to be in a good shape. But nobody could confirm if there is no more risk. So, if any accident takes place after its reopening, the shop owners will be held responsible,” said Annisul Huq.
He said, it would be better to wait a few more days for reopening of the market.
Replying to a question, the mayor told the newsmen there is no conflict between
the shop owners and the city corporation.
In the fire, the makeshift part of the market collapsed. On the other hand, the 20 per cent shops of the concrete made market were also damaged.
The shop owners reopened the market on Friday without complying with the directives of the DNCC mayor.
Annisul earlier said the DNCC would take the decision of reopening the market after experts’ opinion in this regard.
