PPEPP-EU project ‘helps reduce’ extreme poverty in climate-vulnerable areas

The Pathways to Prosperity for Extremely Poor People-European Union (PPEPP-EU) project has significantly reduced extreme poverty among targeted households in climate-vulnerable areas of Bangladesh, according to findings presented at the project’s closing ceremony.

The event and discussion were organised by Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) at its auditorium in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Head of Development Cooperation at the European Union Delegation to Bangladesh Michal Krejza attended the programme as the special guest, while PKSF Chairman Zakir Ahmed Khan and Managing Director Md Fazlul Kader were also present.

The project combined climate-resilient livelihoods, primary healthcare, nutrition and inclusive finance through partner organisations working in several climate-vulnerable districts.

Speakers at the event said the initiative improved household food security, reduced child stunting and helped poor households build productive assets and gain access to financial services.

PPEPP-EU Project Director Selina Sharmin, who presented the keynote paper, said tailored financial services, advisory support and disability inclusion played an important role in creating sustainable pathways out of extreme poverty.

The project was implemented by PKSF with support from the European Union to improve the livelihoods and resilience of extremely poor households vulnerable to climate change.
