Dengue toll rises to 219

The death toll from dengue in Bangladesh has risen to 219 this year, with eight more deaths reported in the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The DGHS confirmed the updated figure in a revised press release issued on Saturday, September 26. An earlier release had reported three deaths before the figure was corrected to eight.

Meanwhile, 1,432 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country in the same 24-hour period, bringing the total number of hospitalisations this year to 71,536.

A total of 1,429 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals during the period. So far this year, 66,256 dengue patients have recovered.

Dhaka division recorded the highest number of new hospital admissions, with 566 patients, followed by Chattogram with 209, Barishal with 204, Khulna with 241, Mymensingh with 112, Rajshahi with 57 and Rangpur with 53.

The latest figures highlight the continued spread of dengue across the country, with the cumulative death toll reaching 219 since the beginning of the year.
