Staff Reporter :
Police in a raid busted a Yaba factory in the city’s Demra area and caught a man red-handed when he was making Yaba pills. The arrested man has been identified as Nasir Ahmed, 55.
They recovered 1,110 pieces of Yaba tablets, a steel frame, one heater machine, one drier, around 29 kilogrammes of pink, yellow and red coloured powders and other items from him, Police said.
“A team of Police conducted the raid at Amtola near Tangra Ma Memorial School Road at Sarulia under Demra Poice Station around 3:45pm on Sunday,” said Farid Uddin, Deputy Commissioner of Wari Division under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The powders were used as raw materials for making the yaba tablets, the police official said.
Around four lakh pieces of Yaba tablets could be made by the seized raw materials, the DC claimed.
“In a primary interrogation, Nasir revealed that he has been making 500 pieces of Yaba tablets on a daily basis for a year. Before that, he was an herbal medicine maker,” the police official said.
Police collected information about Nasir from two other arrested men whom they arrested from Wari recently, the DC said.
Law enforcers are now trying to arrest the mastermind of the group called Abdullah, he said.
An eight-member syndicate was involved in the making and sale of Yaba tablets in the area, the police official said.
This gang used to market the Yaba tablets in Wari and different parts of the capital, he added.
