Captain of Bangladesh National Hockey team Russell Mahmud Jimmy said, ” Our target is to be the champions in the 5th Men’s AHF Cup. “
Jimmy spoke at a press conference at the conference room of Moulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Wednesday. Head Coach of Bangladesh National Hockey team Oliver and Vice-President of Bangladesh Hockey Federation Shafiullah Al Munir also spoke at the conference.
Bangladesh National Hockey team left the city on Wednesday night for Hong Kong of China to take part in the 5th Men’s AHF Cup. Index Group is sponsoring national hockey team. The tournament will start on November 19 and will come to an end on November 27.
Jimmy said, ” Earlier, we had some problems that we did not get enough time for preparation. But this time we got enough time for preparation. Besides, we played some practice matches abroad.”
He said, ” There are 18 players in our squad. Everyone has capability to be included in the 11-member squad.”
Head Coach Oliver said, ” Our target is to clinch the title and qualify in the Asia Cup Hockey.”
He said, ” If my team cannot clinch the title, it means that I am not a good coach. There is a good combination in our team. There are some experienced players and there are some talented promising players in my team.”
Shafiullah Al Munir said, ” We had some complications in visa processing. But at last we have overcome the problems.”
He said, ” Before taking part in the tournament, we played eight preparation matches in Germany, Austria and Poland. Of them, we drew five matches with our opponents and lost to three matches against our counterparts.”
A total of eight teams splitting into two groups are taking part in the 5th Men’s AHF Cup.
Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong of China, Macau China are in Pool A, while Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uzbekistan are in Pool B.
The players of Bangladesh team are: Md Zahid Hossain, Reazaul Karim Babu, Farhad Ahmed Shetul, Md Mamunur Rahman Chayan, Mohammad Ashraful Islam, Md Khorshedur Rahman, Md Imran Hasan, Md Sarower Hossain, Mohammad Romman Sarkar, Kamaruzzaman, Russell Mahmud Jimmy (Captain), Mohammad Mainul Islam, Puskar Khisa, Md Milon Hossain, Krishno Kumar Das, Tapos Barmon, Asim Gope, Md Hasan Jubaer Niloy.
