Extortion rampant in Sylhet city

Open extortion is hampering the life of the Sylhet City people recently. The terrorists engaged with silent extortion in Sylhet particularly the incidents of silent extortion is alarmingly. The shopkeepers, small businesspersons and professionals including doctors and engineers are suffering due to the extortion. Now, silent extortion is an open secret in the city.
Sources said, many shopkeepers of the markets of the city, small businessmen, guardians of school going children, professionals are becoming the victims. Talking to the reporter some owners of shops at Bondor Bazar alleged that the terrorists used to come to the shop and demanded toll by name of top terrorists.
“If we failed to pay the money, they looted goods from the shop and beat up the businessman at the gunpoint”, they alleged.
They said, “If we disclose the incident to police or anybody, the criminals threatened to abduct us.” The businessmen said that they are became habituated to pay the toll silently. The businessmen also alleged that if they complained to the police or the law enforcing agencies there was not result.
Sources said, the new faces are coming in the underworld recently. The gangs of top terrorists are expanded with new terrorists. The age of new faces in the underworld is not more than 20 to 30 years. Sometimes, the teenaged criminals also engaged with crimes. The new faces committed crimes in the city area. They engaged with snatching, robbery, extortion and other types of crime.
Police sources said, the new criminals committed light types of crime. But, huge new criminals are already been included in the underworld. As the maximum top terrorists are in jail, their accomplices led their gangs in the city area. The second row cadres are organised the new criminals in the underworld.
