Awareness raising debate about militancy at Green University

Green University Debating Society organized a 2-day long Anti-Militant and Awareness Raising Debate Competition that started on Tuesday last.
A total 48 debaters from 16 universities and 42 from 12 colleges participated in the debate competition.
Swadesh Roy, Executive Editor of the “Daily Janakantha” and Prof Zia Rahman, Chairperson of the Department of Criminology of Dhaka University were the Chief Guests in the inaugural and closing sessions respectively. Prof Dr Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, Vice Chancellor of the University, presided over both the sessions. Md. Shahid Ullah, Treasurer and Lieutenant General Md. Mainul Islam (LPR), Registrar of Green University were present as the special guests respectively in the programs.
The discussants said, debating against terrorism is a good initiative for the youth genneration. Young generation is the asset of the nation. So proper nurturing and guidance can show them the right path.
Besides academic competency, other skills are also necessary for a student. A few separatist militants never represent our dear homeland. Bangladesh is always with and for those people who are secular and progressive.
The young stars have always protected our country and ensured its safety. Those people together have built a society based on logic and the participants can be made aware regarding the issues of fanaticism, terrorism through such debate programs.
Iqbal Hassan, faculty member of the University and Moderator of GUDC, delivered the welcome speech. Hasibur Rahman, President of GUDC and Imran Rabbani Sawjet, General Secretary of GUDCE moderated the whole program.
Jahangirnagar University became champion and Dhaka University became runner-up at the college level.
In the college level competition, Birshrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf Public College became champion and Dhaka College became runner-up.
