Imports under false declaration thru’ Ctg Port alarmingly increases

Within the span of two days, two consignments imported under false declaration detected in Chittagong Port .
On Thursday consignment of contraband cigars seized by RAB forces from terminal bhaban area and one day’s after another consignment of electronic items seized by the customs intelligence officials from No.5 berth gate of the port loaded in 3covered vans.
These electronic products were imported by Delwar Enterprise of Dhaka a declaring the LED Light accessories under bond facilities aimed at evading govt revenue of Tk.one crore The normal duty of the LED accessories is 37% whereas the import duties of the electronic items is 129.8% . After assessing the consignment of these electronic items ascertained tax evasion of Tk.one crore.
Acting on secret information Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department detained these three covered vans at exist point of berth gate No.5 on Friday and after physical assessment the tax evasion tricks detected, sources said. Sources said M/sts.
Towfik and Sons , a C&F agent was entrusted with the clearance of the consignment. CIID sources said departmental actions will be taken against the importer
Meanwhile, RAB forces seized another consignment of contraband cigarettes worth about Tk.5 crores from chittagong Port terminal bhaban on Thursday evening . The cigarette laden container was seized by the law enforcers from terminal bhaban area at evening hours on Thursday following the sensing of secret informations.
Port sources said an importer of Narayangong named RAZ Garments imported 40 lakh 80 thousand pieces of Benson Hedges cigarettes wi th bond facilities declaring garments accessories. RAB-7 vigilance team seized the container before the time of delivery of the container. Major Jahangi r Alam of RAB-7 told the media that a Bond orgnisation of Narayangonj imported these contraband cigars declaring garments accessories.
Port sources said on behalf of the importer, C&F firm M/s. Raiyan trading was entrusted with the clearingof the false declared consignment from the port.
Acting on secret information, physical inventory conducted in the suspected container and detected the huge quantities of foreign cigarettes worth about Tk.5crores .The con raband cigars now deposited to customs warehouse, sources said.
