Tense situation prevails over payment of salary, bonus of CEPZ workers

A tense situation has been prevailing among the workers of Chittagong Friends Apparels of Chittagong Export Processing Zone following the nonpayment of salary on scheduled date.
Deputy Commissioner of CMP (Bandar) Harunur Rashid Hazari told the media that due to nonpayment of salary of the previous month, the workers became tense and launched agitation . Later, the workers became calm and returned to their duties following the assurances of the factory management after the joint of meeting of Industrial police and BEPZA authority. General Manager of BEPZA Khurshid Alam told that following the meeting of management, workers and Industrial police, the situation became normal and returned to their duties and started payment of salary from evening of the day.
Meanwhile the workers of Ambia Group staged demonstration and siege road infront of Agrabad Lucky plaza in city on Monday afternoon demanding arrear salary of the workers.
The siege was lasted for about one hours and following the assurances of the management the siege programmes withdrawn, sources said.
Doublemooring thana police sources said, salary of May was supposed to be paid on June 2 .the workers also demanded salary of current month and eid bonus by end of this month and the management assured them, sources said.
