Norway keen to develop ship-breaking industry

Norway govt granted aid for Tk.12 crores to Bangladesh govt for development of environmental structures of the ship-breaking industry of Bangladesh . Norwegian Ambassador in Bangladesh Merethe Lundemu disclosed it while visiting the site of PHP Ship Breaking & Recycling Yard in Sitalpur under Sitakunda upazila of chittagong on Monday . The Norwegian diplomat told that they will continue their supports for development of this sector . He assures all sorts of cooperation on behalf of Norway govt for development of this industry in Bangladesh. Managing Director of PHP Shipbreaking Yard Ltd and Foreign affairs secretary of Ship-breakers Association Md. Jahirul welcomed the Ambassador in their industry .
Other officials of the Norwegian embassy accompanied the Ambassador. Executive Director of the yard Noor Mohammad Faruk was also present during the visit of the diplomat. The diplomat goes round the different sections of the yard for about 2 hours and enquired about the first aid treatment to the workers, security measures to avoid any fatal incidents during working hours. He praised the PHP management and earmarked PHP shipyard as a model yard of Bangladesh.
