Awareness must to curb corruption from society, says ACC boss
Staff Reporter :Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmud on Saturday said, awareness among the people is a must to eliminate corruption from the society. “Giving punishment to the corrupt people is not a solution. We have to take initiative how we can eradicate corruption from the society. Our first priority is to make the people conscious about the consequence of the corruption,” he said. The ACC chairman said this while briefing the journalists at Satkhira Circuit House after completion of his two days visit. The ACC boss went there to take part at an awareness campaigning programme against corruption. Director General of ACC Shamsul Arefin, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Satkhira Abul Quashem Md Mahiuddin and Additional DC of Satkhira AFM Ehteshamul Haque were present there, among others. Iqbal Mahmud said, it is very difficult to bring back the corrupt people from the fold of corruption. But it is easy to create awareness among the children to hate corruption. That is why the ACC has started its awareness campaigning programme from Satkhira. “The kids do not know what is corruption. We should teach them good words, and not bad words. I believe that definitely they will learn it and it will be reflexed in their personal life. We also set up 20,885 Satata Songhas to discourage the kids from corruption,” Iqbal Mahmud said. “The ACC filed 3,000 cases against many people and institutions. All the cases have strong merit and the Commission found irregularities in its primary investigation. The officials of the Commission have been working to prepare charge sheets against the alleged persons and institutions,” the ACC chairman said. Iqbal Mahmud said, “There is no bar for the journalists to enter the ACC headquarters. They could enter there and share their opinion. They also could collect information related to their news.”
