Heatwave strains Mirzapur hospitals as illnesses surge

In Tangail’s Mirzapur, many diseases including diarrhea are spreading amid the ongoing intense heatwave across the country. Children as well as the elderly people are affecting seriously. Overcrowding of patients in hospitals is increasing day by day. The hospital and clinic authorities are struggling to treat the patients.
Due to intense heat, diseases have spread among children in various villages of Mirzapur Municipality, Mahera, Jamurki, Fatepur, Banail, Anaitara, Warshi, Bhatgram, Bhaora, Bahuria, Gogai, Latifpur, Azgana, Tarafpur and Banshtail Union. In addition to government hospitals, the number of patients in private hospitals and clinics is increasing. Colds, fevers, respiratory tract, pneumonia, bronchiolitis, diarrhea in children and in elderly women and men are common diseases.
It has been found that the Kumudini Hospital of Mirzapur Upazila Sadar is overcrowded with patients from different areas. Going to the external department, it was seen that hundreds of parents are standing in line for treatment of their sick children due to severe heat. The mother of a sick child who came to Kumudini Hospital for treatment said that her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter had cold, fever, chills and diarrhea for several days. He was brought here for better treatment as he was not well treated at home.
On the other hand, in addition to Kumudini Hospital, government health complex, private clinic, Mirzapur General Hospital, Jamuna General Hospital, Mordan Hospital, Bangsai Digital Hospital, Bikash Hospital and other hospitals, it was found that the crowd of children and elderly people suffering from heat-related diseases came for treatment. Clinic doctors are providing their services. The doctors of Kumudini Hospital Children’s Department said that every day 250-300 children are coming to the outpatient department for treatment due to various diseases in summer. First aid is being given to the children who come for treatment and various advice is given to the parents. Those whose condition is a little worse are being admitted and are being treated. After visiting the children’s department of Kumudni Hospital, it was seen that children are being treated in the ward as well as in the balcony.
AGM (Operation) of Kumudini Hospital, Animesh Bhowmik Liton, said that the doctors and nurses have been put on alert to treat the children and elderly admitted due to severe heat. They are providing medical care day and night.
In this regard, Kumudini Hospital Assistant Director (Pediatrics) MPH (Nipsam) Dr. ABM Ali Hasan said, due to the intense heat for several days, diseases caused by children and the elderly have spread. Especially children’s colds, fever, respiratory system, pneumonia, bronchiolitis, diarrhea and various diseases have also appeared in adults. The doctors of the hospital who are coming for treatment are treating the patients with care. Mirzapur Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Md. Faridul Islam informed that the government hospital doctors, health assistants and health nurses in the upazila government health complex, various health sub-centres and mother and child welfare centers are giving health awareness advice and free medicine to children and the elderly suffering from various diseases in severe heat.
