Dengue claims 10 more lives

At least ten people died of dengue fever across the country in the last 24 hours.
Wednesday marked the second-highest single-day death toll from dengue this year.

The highest was recorded on September 21, when 12 people died from the mosquito-borne disease within 24 hours.

During this period, 1,069 patients have been admitted to hospitals and so far this year, 302 people have died from dengue, according to a press release by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday.

The DGHS officials said that in the past 24 hours, five people have died in the Dhaka South City Corporation area, three in the North City Corporation area, and one each in Khulna and Barishal divisions.

A total of 1,069 new dengue patients were hospitalized during the period. Among them, 128 are from Barishal division, 99 from Chattogram division, 219 from Dhaka division (outside the city corporations), 251 from Dhaka North City, 152 from Dhaka South City, 68 from Khulna division (outside the city corporations), 70 from Mymensingh division (outside the city corporations), 34 from Rajshahi division (outside the city corporations), 43 from Rangpur division (outside the city corporations), and 5 from Sylhet division (outside the city corporations).

Meanwhile, 958 dengue patients have been discharged from hospitals across the country in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of people discharged this year to 71,487.

Since January, a total of 75,992 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals nationwide, and 302 have died from the disease so far this year.

According to DGHS records, from January 1 to December 31, 2024, 101,214 people were hospitalized due to dengue, and 575 people died. In comparison, during 2023, 1,705 people died from dengue, and 321,179 patients were hospitalized.
