367 flights cancelled at Dhaka Airport

A total of 367 flights have been cancelled at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport over the past 11 days due to the security situation in the Middle East.

The latest cancellations were reported on Tuesday, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB).
Kawsar Mahmud, public relations officer of the aviation authority, said several Middle Eastern countries closed their airspace on February 28 amid security concerns.

Countries that temporarily shut their airspace include Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan.

“As a result of the evolving situation, flights operated by various airlines from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport have been cancelled and continue to be cancelled,” he said.

According to airport authorities, 23 flights were cancelled on February 28, followed by 40 on March 1, 46 on March 2, and 39 on March 3.

Subsequently, 28 flights were cancelled on March 4, 36 on March 5, 34 on March 6, 28 on March 7, 28 on March 8, and 33 on March 9.

On March 10 alone, 32 flights were cancelled, bringing the total number of cancelled flights over the 11 days to 367.
