1 killed in cylinder explosion at Aricha Ghat

One person was killed and three others were injured in a cylinder explosion of a car tire inflation machine at Aricha Ghat in Shibalaya Upazila of Manikganj.

The incident took place near Ghat No. 3 of the Aricha Ferry Terminal on Saturday (March 7) at around 11 am.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Mallick (46), son of Ansar Mallick, a tenant of Shibalaya Notun Para village. His younger sister, Sathi Akhter, confirmed the news of his death and said that he died on the way to Dhaka Pangu Hospital.

The injured were Sabbir (16), son of local resident Nabi Hossain, and Jahangir (45), who works at the nearby ferry ticket counter.

Eyewitnesses said that the cylinder of the tire inflation machine belonging to Akkas Maker exploded at around 11 am. Mohammad Mallick was having tea in front of a tea stall located near the cylinder.

At that time, he was seriously injured after being hit by a part of the exploded cylinder.

He was given first aid at the local Shibalaya Upazila Health Complex and later died on the way to Dhaka Pangu Hospital.

Sabbir, a betel leaf shopkeeper, suffered serious injuries to his ear. Nearby shops were also damaged by small and large pieces of machinery.

Md. Kamal Hossain, an employee of a local tea stall, said that he was behind the shop when the cylinder exploded.

After hearing a loud noise, he came forward and saw Mohammad Mallick lying on the ground with severe injuries to both his legs. Local people then arranged to take him to the hospital.
