Staff Reporter :

Three officials of Bangladesh Bank have been transferred after being issued show-cause notices for remarks made at a press conference in which they labelled BB Governor Ahsan H Mansur an “autocrat.”

The transfers were ordered on Tuesday by the central bank’s Human Resources Department.

Those transferred are Nawshad Mostafa—general secretary of Bangladesh Bank’s Neel Dal and a director in the SME and Special Programmes Department AKM Masum Billah, president of the Bangladesh Bank Officers’ Welfare Council elected from Neel Dal, and Golam Mostafa Shraban, its general secretary.

Under the order, Nawshad Mostafa has been posted from the head office to the Barishal office, Masum Billah to Rangpur, and Golam Mostafa Shraban to the Bogura office.

According to media reports, the three officials spoke at a press conference held on 16 February.

During the briefing, they criticised the governor over several issues, including proposals to merge weaker banks with EXIM Bank and Social Islami Bank, as well as the process for issuing digital banking licences.
