Engr Iqbal secures State Minister post

The BNP has finalised 25 ministers and 24 state ministers for the cabinet under the leadership of party Chairman Tarique Rahman. Veteran BNP leader Engineer M Iqbal Hossain was sworn in as a minister of state for Disaster Management and Relief in Bangladesh’s new 49 member cabinet on Tuesday. He won the Mymensingh-3 (Gouripur) seat and brings decades of political hope of Gouripur upazila. The people of Gouripur Upazila warmly greeted him as appointed as a state minister and sweets were distributed in many important places of this upazila.

Engineer M Iqbal Hossain, a member of BNP’s central executive committee, has won according to initial results. The ‘Dhaaner Shish’ candidate secured 75,320 votes, while his closest rival, BNP rebel candidate Ahammad Tayebur Rahman Hiron of the ‘Ghoda’ symbol, received 65,995 votes. Engineer M Iqbal Hossain is a BUET graduate.

20 years ago he intended to contest the National Assembly Election from Mymensingh-3 (Gouripur) constituency. His father Mr Ismail Hossain was ex-member of Parliament in 1979 (one of the ten MP’s elected from Bangladesh Muslim League) and a former central vice president of Pakistan Muslim League 1970-71 and a only proposer for renaming Dhaka International Airport as “Zia International Airport”.
