Case filed on Atif Aslam’s concert accused of fraud

A case of fraud has been filed in court against five people, including the co-founder of the organising organisation, for not refunding ticket prices even after Pakistani artiste Atif Aslam’s concert was postponed.
Lawyer Ahsan Habib Bhuiyan filed the case in the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain on Monday.
The court recorded the statement of plaintiff Ahsan Habib Bhuiyan. Chalghuri Limited has been named as a company in the case. And four individuals have been named as accused.
The accused in the case are : Kazi Rafsan, co-founder of the organising company ‘Main Stage Inc’, Briti Sabrina Khan, Chalghuri Limited’s Managing Director Asif Iqbal and Chairman Promee Islam. Plaintiff in the case, Ahsan Habib Bhuiyan, said that the court has taken cognizance of the application and asked the detective police to investigate the allegations and submit a report within
the next 15 working days.
According to the complaint, an advertisement was placed on a Facebook ID called ‘Main Stage Inc’ announcing that Atif Aslam’s concert would be held on December 13. The advertisement offered tickets of various categories. The plaintiff bought five tickets for the concert on November 19. He paid Tk 28,844 for the tickets.
On December 12, the defendants announced on their Facebook page that the concert had been postponed due to lack of government permission. The names of six witnesses were mentioned in the case. They also bought six tickets of different prices. Charges of criminal breach of trust and fraud have been filed in the case. It is learned that the concert was scheduled to be held on December 13 at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Exhibition Centre in Purbachal.
Earlier, in a Facebook post on December 11, musician Atif said that they were not performing at the concert scheduled for December 13 in Dhaka. The reason for this was that the concert organisers and management authorities were unable to secure the necessary local permits, security clearances and logistics.
