NBR’s new transfer policy soon

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) is likely to effect new transfer policy with a view to ensuring accountability and transparency in its excise and value added tax (VAT) department.
Already the draft of the new policy has been prepared in this regard, said the NBR Chairman Nojibur Rahman to The New Nation on Friday.
According to the draft policy, no NBR official will be allowed to perform their duty in Dhaka permanently, nor they will be transferred in their own district, said the chairman, adding that the promotion system will be executed on the basis of experience and educational qualification.
According to the sources, a group of NBR officials have been staying in Dhaka for a long time by maintaining strong liaison with the high officials. Apart from this, they managed to get their transfer order cancelled from Dhaka with the help of influential political patrons.
In this connection, the NBR Chairman said, “We are going to introduce this policy for the betterment of the qualified persons so that they can perform their duty free from anxiety”.
As per the new transfer system, every official will have to perform his or her duty outside Dhaka for quite a some time.
The NBR authorities will take action under Public Administration Ministry Act 1979 against those officials who will violet the rules, or will maintain lobby with political leaders and NBR executives for cancellation of their transfer orders. “If it is proved, the authorities will not consider him for further promotion”, he said.
The whole transfer system will be implemented on the basis of the reputation, skill and qualification of the officials.
